Understanding the environmental challenges of publishers
In the Netherlands and the UK alone, some 83 million books are pulped every year due to overproduction: Pages from these books could circle our planet 125 times!
One of a publishers’ biggest challenges is to estimate how well a book will sell. The impact on financial results and the environment can be profound: On average 30% of books is never sold. Printforce’s business model is inherently sustainable: By focusing on on-demand, zero warehouse production, we help our customers decrease their ecological footprint dramatically.
Environmental Management System (EMS)
At Printforce, we like to practice what we preach. Apart from helping our customers become more sustainable, Printforce aims to continuously improve its own sustainability policies. This includes preventing air-, water-, soil-, and noise pollution. Furthermore, we promote sustainable use of energy and raw materials.
We execute our sustainability policy through our EMS, which describes the goals and standards we set to lessen our – and our suppliers’ – impact on the environment. Most of our paper is wood-free. Other papers contain light traces of wood and are FSC certified: The standard for sustainable forestry. Further, we carefully separate and register our waste – which we then report in our “Eco-balance” for internal and external reporting purposes. Different waste bins are placed all over the company, to differ between plastics, mono paper, full colour paper, and cartons. Most of our waste is then picked up by our recycling partner.
Sustainability is an integral part of Printforce’s business. We understand the challenges of our customers – also when it comes to taking care of the environment together. Contact us if you want to find out more.
